Module 1: Basic techniques in wax
Intro to wax types and tools for wax
wax exercise 1 - the pyramid and the dome
first wax ring ( simple band ) ( or the soft square ring ) - take the ring to have it cast in metal
sawing, filing and polishing exercise in metal
clean and polish the cast metal ring
wax exercise 2 - hollowing out wax
second wax ring - the hollowed out dome ring or signet ring
ring is cast cleaned and polished
Final project - free form ring, design of your choice
Module 2: Continuation of techniques in wax
Intro to textures for wax
wax exercise 1 - Introduction to heat and wax, making balls in wax, making jump rings in wax ( wax wires ), repairs in wax, adding wax to your piece
first wax pendant - take the pendant to be cast in metal
metal exercise 1 - introduction to soldering in metal - make metal jump rings ( soldering of jump ring to pendant )
Clean and polish your pendant
making your piece more 3D - carving details ( explore the Wolf carving tools )
second wax project ( pendant or earrings )
metal exercise 2 - introduce soldering posts for earrings
Final project of your design incorporating techniques from the class
Module 3: Working in wax and stone setting
Intro to stone setting and wax - includes information about stones, the mohs chart of hardness and why it matters when choosing a stone for your piece
Metal exercise 1 - make a simple bezel for a round stone
Incorporate the metal bezel into a wax design of your choice
Have the piece cast, solder, clean and set the stone
introduction to sheet wax and it’s flexibility ( Create and cut out shapes )
Wax exercise 1 - make a bezel in wax
Final design - create an original piece of your own design incorporating techniques you have learned with the addition of the bezel you have created in wax
Have the piece cast, clean, set the stone and polish the piece
